“The 36th Annual Burton U·S·Open Snowboarding Championships return to Vail, Colorado, March 5-10, 2018. As the premier event of the competitive snowboarding season, the U·S·Open showcases the most progressive riding from the world’s top pros in both slopestyle and halfpipe. In addition, the celebrated Burton U·S·Open Halfpipe Junior Jam presented by Clif Bar features the world’s top 14-and-under riders vying for a chance to compete against the pros.
The U·S·Open also offers a packed entertainment schedule including four nights of FREE concerts, daily après specials, and fun activities and events for all ages including the annual Chill fundraiser, a kids learn-to-ride Riglet park, Burton Girls Ride Days and gatherings, as well as the closing party at the Dobson Ice arena.
The Burton U.S. Open features five nights of musical performances including Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, as well as events, demos, and activities for the entire family throughout the five-day event.
Starting off on Tuesday, March 6th with the celebrated Burton U.S. Open Junior Jam, watch a field of the top halfpipe groms aged 14 and under–16 boys and eight girls–battling it out in the 22-foot superpipe. These young riders will be competing for a $2,000 prize purse and the opportunity to compete alongside the pros in Thursday’s halfpipe semi-finals.
The pro competition gets underway on Wednesday, March 7th with $343,000 on the line. First slopestyle semi-finals on the 7th, followed by halfpipe semi-finals on Thursday. It is the final major comp of the year, so get ready to see the riders huck like there is no tomorrow. Last year we saw Shaun White (USA) with a history-making run including a Cab double cork 1440 (his first in competition), as well as Chloe Kim (USA) successfully defending her title. Both have since won gold at the Olympics and are looking to defend their Open titles three years in a row!
