MMAjunkie was on scene and reporting live from today’s early and official UFC Fight Night 124 fighter weigh-ins.
The early weigh-ins took place at the UFC host hotel in St. Louis. There is no ceremonial weigh-in event for the fans. UFC Fight Night 124 takes place Sunday at Scottrade Center in St. Louis and is the promotion’s first trip to the city. The card airs on FS1 following early prelims on UFC Fight Pass.
Among those to successfully weigh in were featherweights Jeremy Stephens (26-14 MMA, 13-13 UFC) and Dooho Choi (14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC), who meet in the main event. Co-headliner Uriah Hall (13-8 MMA, 6-6 UFC) did not weigh in, though, and his middleweight matchup with former champion Vitor Belfort (26-13 MMA, 15-10 UFC) was pulled from the card.
Since dropping to Featherweight, Stephens has proved himself a worthy member of the Top 15, struggling to breach the top five but scoring enough key victories to remain relevant. He enters this bout off perhaps his career’s best performance, a three-round shellacking of former title challenger Gilbert Melendez. On the other hand, Choi began his UFC career with three straight knockout wins that took a combined five minutes. His powerful right hand earned him the opportunity to step up opposite the veteran Cub Swanson, but the “Fight of the Year”-winning brawl did not end in his favor.
In the night’s main event, featherweight sluggers Jeremy Stephens and Doo Ho Choi lock horns. The longtime veteran Stephens will make his 27th Octagon appearance in the Show-Me State. The 31-year-old is coming off a decision victory over former Strikeforce titleholder Gilbert Melendez at UFC 215 in September. South Korea’s Choi, meanwhile, will aim to rebound from a decision loss to Cub Swanson at UFC 206 in a fight that many felt was worthy of “Fight of the Year” consideration in 2016. The loss snapped a 12-fight winning streak.
